The Moon Temple is an independently organised self funded piece of public art at a derelict building in Royate Hill Nature Reserve, Bristol. It was initially a collaboration between Dan Petley and Michael Powell, and has evolved into a space for critically engaged artists to explore new ideas.
‘Since the project started I had observed how people used the space during visits, and saw that people liked to walk around, sit down and generally spend some quality time there. I realised that there was a captive audience of a large cross section of people who were genuinely interested in the space and the work exhibited there. Due to its ‘off the radar’ nature, we established it as an art space where an audience could genuinely ‘be themselves’. We decided that this made it the perfect site to invite other artists to create and expose new work.’ Dan Petley
A programme of artist residencies have been organised by Dan Petley and Harry Westbrook, who have curated the space since September 2014. A new batch of artists will take the Moon Temple to its next stage in the Spring and Summer months of 2015.
